Adam's Bucketful of Hope: A Place for Emotional Support and Healing

Adam's Bucketful of Hope is a dedicated centre offering emotional support and distraction for patients and their carers. The centre provides a range of engaging activities, including exciting trips, parties, complementary therapies, beauty treatments, podiatry, and counselling. Through these activities, we aim to help patients find relief from the daily anxiety of their illness by encouraging positive distractions and meaningful experiences.

The Legacy of Adam Evans-Thomas

The charity was founded by Adam Evans-Thomas after being diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia 25 years ago. Adam began his fundraising efforts by recruiting blood and bone marrow donors for the Welsh Blood Service in Llantrisant. His impactful work led to the donation of a high dependency room at The Heath Hospital in Cardiff through Adam's Bucketful of Hope Appeal.

A Lasting Legacy at Withybush Hospital

In the final stages of his life, Adam wished to "give back" to Withybush Hospital and its incredible staff, who cared for him throughout his 10-year battle with illness. His fundraising efforts contributed to the establishment of the Pembrokeshire Haematology and Oncology Day Unit, completed in December 2017, fulfilling Adam's remarkable legacy.

Continuing the Mission: The Cancer Support Venue

Since 2009, Adam's family and friends have continued to fundraise in his memory. The Cancer Support Venue offers a welcoming community space where patients, fondly referred to as Buckateers, can find strength and companionship. Here, they have access to care, warmth, laughter, support, and vital resources to face their challenges head-on.

Why Buckateers?

The term Buckateers was coined by the patients themselves. Having fought for their local hospital unit during challenging times, they embraced the name as a symbol of their resilience and determination. They see themselves as modern-day buccaneers, fighting in the war against cancer with love, support, and courage.
