When we lost Megan our world literally was shattered into a million pieces, I’ve likened it to having a grenade thrown into your life obliterating everything that you’ve ever known.
I personally don’t remember much. The pain was simply too much to comprehend, but what I did know, was that we were all alone with nobody there to help us.
We had no choice but to unite as a family and come through it as best as we could.
However, one thing that we were passionate about was needing to let other parents know about the dangers of mental health, so they were not stood where we were. We didn’t want to wait to have to help them through it, we wanted to prevent it from ever happening.
2023 - Megan’s Starr is in its 7th year and is going from strength to strength.
But, It’s a bittersweet situation -
I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but what it does show is that our services are needed now more than ever.
Just to put things into perspective, In the last 2 years, we have funded over 1120 hours of both peer & professional support to young people who have really needed it & we know this support has saved lives.
We are working in a fun, unique, and dynamic way to help bridge the gap between needing support and referral to statutory services.
We are here to help these young people when they need it.
Nicola Harteveld - Megan's mum and founder of Megan's Starr
