Places to Eat: New Inn, Amroth

Recently under the new ownership of Tony, Hannah and the team at The Helm, I was curious to check out the New Inn, Amroth and in particular their Sunday Lunches.

At The Helm, Tony and his team had built up a reputation for delicious Sunday Lunches so when I saw they were continuing these in their new endeavour and with Mother's Day coming up I decided to finally make a booking to see what all the fuss is about.

I arrived at the restaurant to see many hungry customers entering and the place quickly filled up with everyone excited about their meals. My girlfriend and I received a warm welcome from the staff who were attentive and personable, making time to chat with our six-year-old and make her feel comfortable.

For a starter, I ordered Prawn Cocktail which came out quickly. A healthy-sized portion with plenty of prawns and packed full of flavour. No-nonsense food with everything you would want, a sign of things to come.

We ordered a Lamb, Beef and kid's Turkey Roast. When the plates came out the generous portion size was immediately noticeable. I'm a big believer that Sunday Roasts should be big and hearty, which these definitely delivered.

Along with the meat, there were a number of delicious accompanying items with my favourites being the giant Yorkshire pudding, the tray of cheesy leaks and the boat of extra gravy - definitely my type of comfort food.

I'm not quite sure how, but I managed room for dessert with my girlfriend and I both ordered the Creme Egg Cheesecake. Once again, a generous portion and absolutely delicious! I was worried about it being too heavy with chocolate but that wasn't the case.

The New Inn certainly didn't disappoint, delivering hearty comforting meals, not shrimping on size and being packed full of flavour - everything that a Sunday Lunch should be!
