Connect: Pembrokeshire was delighted to recently welcome SM Bespoke Care to our platform. This family-run home healthcare service has rapidly established itself as a caring and comprehensive provider in the Pembrokeshire area. We sat down with Ryan Morgan, who co-owns the business with his wife Shannon, to talk about their journey, services, and vision for care in the community.
Could you tell us a bit about how SM Bespoke Care came to be? What inspired you and Shannon to start this venture in Pembroke?
"Shannon has been in the care industry for over a decade, she has worked in various settings such as care homes, hospitals, community etc. Shannon wanted to progress her career in early 2024 and that's when she took the leap to become self-employed. She rapidly took on clients and within months she started employing other carers. This is where I started to get involved and since then we have grown from no clients to where we are now."
You and Shannon make quite the team! How do your different roles complement each other in running the business?
"So our roles are very different, we stick to what we both know. Shannon's main role is to look after the care side of things and my role is to look after the business as a whole. Together we make a very good team!"
I understand Shannon brings over a decade of healthcare experience to the table. How has that expertise helped shape your approach to care services like medication administration and personal care?
"Yes, Shannon is very experienced in what she does. It is those expertise that have helped grow the business to what it is today. Myself and Shannon are very hands on and both see clients on a daily basis. Because Shan has done care for so long she knows how to assist with personal care, administration of medication etc like the back of her hand. She also shares her expertise with our carers to ensure they are as good as they can be!"
You're offering quite a diverse range of services, from personal care to community access and companionship. Was this comprehensive approach always part of your vision?
"Yes we do offer a lot of services. We always had this vision for the business, in care you need to be flexible. It's not about what is easier for the carer or company it's what is best for the client and that's how we work. We love seeing our clients happy with our services and the fact we can offer all the above things is a real positive."
I'm intrigued by your upcoming 'Mindful Moments' day opportunities. Could you give us a sneak peek into what that will involve? When do you plan to launch this?
"Yes, Mindful Moments is very exciting!! My mum has been a carer for adults with learning disabilities since I was very young so I've always been brought up around her clients back then it was allowed! Since we started SM Bespoke Care we have also supported adults with learning disabilities most of which use the Anchorage in Pembroke Dock which has recently closed and they now have no day centre. This is where we thought we could help the local community and give them a space to enjoy different activities! We are hoping to be open at the beginning of May! This service will be available through Pembrokeshire Council Day Opportunities."
What would you say sets SM Bespoke Care apart from other home care services in Pembrokeshire?
"I would say our hands on approach and experience is what sets us apart. Myself or Shannon are always at the end of the phone to clients and our team no matter the time of day. We also make sure our team are highly trained and that clients enjoy them going to their homes!"
What's been your proudest moment since launching the business?
"I would say our proudest moment is that we can help people on a daily basis. Care is a very rewarding career, myself and Shannon are just so proud of how far we have come in so little time."
For someone considering care options for themselves or a loved one in the Pembrokeshire area, what would you want them to know about SM Bespoke Care?
"So if anyone is looking for a new care service, we offer a range of different services and always try and tailor our approach to the individual in question. We always go above and beyond for our clients and have amazing feedback from them. We are a small team so we work very closely with each other!"
Finally, what's the most rewarding aspect of running this business together in the local community?
"The most rewarding aspect is that we can support local people. All our team are local, we support local clients and since we started working on Mindful Moments we have been supporting so many local businesses!"
