We recently caught up with Anish and Isara Panicker, who took over the historic Heywood Spa Hotel in Tenby in 2023. The charming establishment has been revitalised under the Panickers' stewardship, with Deputy Hotel Manager Sean Sutton overseeing daily operations.

The hotel's rich history stretches back to fascinating connections with literary greatness. In the 1890s, the property played host to Charles Dodgson - better known as Lewis Carroll - who penned his final published words here in a preface for his cousin Elizabeth Wilcox's novel. This rich heritage continues today, with the hotel welcoming an impressive roster of international musicians, sports personalities and television stars through its doors.

Perhaps the most striking transformation under the new ownership has been the launch of the Marigold Restaurant. What was once a bar and grill has evolved into an sophisticated pan-Asian dining destination guests can explore cuisines from India, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, China, Malaysia and Thailand. Led by an accomplished chef from Dubai, John Thampi whose international experience brings an exciting dimension to Tenby's culinary landscape. John and his team have created an innovative menu that seamlessly blends authentic Asian flavours with contemporary presentation.

The menu showcases this fusion brilliantly, featuring dishes such as Korean Chilli Pork Belly, Malabar Mango Prawn Curry, and Keralan Beef Curry, alongside reimagined British classics. "We wanted to offer something new to the area," explains Isara, "authentic flavours with a modern twist that would complement Tenby's existing dining scene."

The Panickers have invested significantly in modernising the hotel's rooms, introducing luxury furnishings while maintaining the property's inherent charm. Their philosophy of continuous improvement extends throughout the establishment, from the spa facilities to the guest services. Recent guest reviews highlight the success of their approach. One visitor praised the "exemplary standard of customer service," while another noted the "spotlessly clean" spa facilities. The executive suites have received particular acclaim for their spaciousness and comfort, with several guests highlighting the attentive nature of the staff and the peaceful atmosphere. What is evident throughout the hotel's glowing reviews is the number of returning guests.

"Our aspiration is to provide genuine hospitality, comfort, high quality and a memorable stay in this beautiful part of the world" shares Isara, and the steady stream of returning guests suggests they're achieving just that. The hotel has become known for its attention to detail, from the warm welcome at reception to the tailored spa treatments and exceptional dining experiences.

Located just a short drive from Tenby's centre, the Heywood Spa Hotel has positioned itself as both a luxury retreat for locals and a premium destination for visitors exploring Pembrokeshire. Under the Panickers' guidance, this historic property continues to evolve while honouring its distinguished past, ensuring its place as one of the region's most cherished hospitality venues.
