At a time when charities across Wales are under increasing financial pressure, community events like Sandy Bear Children’s Bereavement Charity’s Big Bash are becoming more important than ever.

Taking place on Saturday 6 June at Withybush Aerodrome, the Big Bash is a free, family friendly celebration designed to bring people together while raising vital funds to support children and young people who are grieving the death of someone close to them.

Sandy Bear works with families across Pembrokeshire and Wales at some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Demand for support continues to grow, while funding becomes harder to secure. Events like the Big Bash are not just about fundraising. They are about visibility, connection and reminding people that behind every charity is a real family, a real child and a real story.

One mum said “We never thought something like a fun run would matter so much, but it did. It was the first time we saw our child smile without forcing it. Sandy Bear helped make that possible.”

The day begins at 11am with the Sandy Bear Fun Run, offering accessible 1.5k and 3k routes suitable for all abilities, including wheelchair users and families with pushchairs. For a small registration fee of £5, participants can walk, jog or run together, helping to kick start the celebrations while directly contributing to local bereavement support services.

Following the fun run, the Big Bash will transform the main pavilion into a lively hub of activity, with local stalls, food, entertainment, performances and a genuine party atmosphere. It is designed to be inclusive, welcoming and joyful, reflecting the community spirit that Sandy Bear sees every day in the families, volunteers and supporters it works alongside.

In a climate where charities are often forced to do more with less, Sandy Bear hopes the Big Bash will encourage people to get out, reconnect locally and support organisations that are quietly making a life changing difference behind the scenes.

Registration for the fun run is encouraged in advance, as the event is expected to be busy, though limited on the day registration will be available from 10.15am.
