Clubs throughout the county have this week been given a choice to make given the very wet weather which has left grounds far from being ready for the first game to take place. Last weekend the grounds advisor inspected pitches and found that most if not all clubs were in no position to prepare a pitch for the first week of the season as currently scheduled.
All clubs have now been given until Wednesday evening the 17th of April to decide between the two options put forward by the county...
Option 1
Cancel the first two rounds of fixtures making it a 16 game season across the board.
Option 2
Rearrange the first two rounds of fixtures for the bank holiday Monday's in May and August.
With the cricket season a short one as it is and with league games not being rescheduled when they are cancelled due to the weather a 16 game season seems very short, considering you could still lose 2/3 of those games at least to rain. It would be great for clubs to all have the same stance, which is also highly unlikely. However for the cricket players, supporters and clubs bars, surely the more cricket we can play the better. Whatever the outcome we will be pleased to bring you the news as we get it here at Connect.
