As the European Long Drive Circuit kicks into high gear, local athlete Billy Truman from Tenby is gearing up to make his mark on the international stage.
A former Wales U18 Golf international, Billy Truman recently made the transition to Long Drive and wasted no time making his presence felt. With five competitions this year across the continent, including three in Germany and two in the UK, Billy is reaching out to the community for support in his quest for success.
Last year, he clinched victory in the British amateur Long Drive competition, showcasing his remarkable talent by consistently launching drives over 390 yards. With impressive numbers like 394, 392, and 391 yards under his belt, Billy is now ready to elevate his game to the professional level.
The journey begins on May 11th in Germany, where Billy will step onto the tee box with aspirations of greatness. However, the road to success comes with its challenges, particularly in terms of financing the essential components of competition – flights, accommodation, and tournament entry fees.
In the exhilarating sport of Long Drive, competitors have six attempts to launch the golf ball as far as possible while keeping it within the grid, adding an extra layer of excitement and skill to the game. With each competition scattered across Europe, the financial burden can be significant.
"I'm incredibly passionate about Long Drive and grateful for the opportunity to compete at the professional level," says Billy. "But I recognise that I can't do it alone. Any support, whether from individuals or companies, would be immensely appreciated as I pursue my dreams."
Beyond his athletic pursuits, Billy is a dedicated CrossFit coach, offering online training programs tailored to golfers seeking to improve their strength and fitness. His diverse background includes a sports degree from Cardiff Met and the completion of Ironman Wales in 2018, showcasing his commitment to excellence in both physical and mental disciplines.
