Pembrokeshire's top division served up thrilling drama all the way to the death with a number of teams fighting for survival. We said months ago that any team with Steven Mills in their ranks are unlikely to be relegated and he proved us correct. His outstanding unbeaten 169 on Monday ensured Llangwm stayed in the first division as they beat Narberth who themsleves have been relegated. Mills has been a different class this season in a struggling Llangwm team, with help from Noah Davies 75 and Matthew Kiff's unbeaten half century Llangwm set Narberth 335 to win, to which they fell 116 runs short. Llangwm picked up seven wickets, meaning they picked up 18 points which proved to be enough to keep them up by the skin of their teeth.
Haverfordwest had beaten Cresselly well on Saturday which made their final day much less nervy, Town will be in the first division next season as they eventually finished seven points clear of the drop. Credit must be given to Town and their fighting spirit shown in the second half of the season. It was club legend Adam James and Jake Merry who were instrumental in their win over Cresselly.
Just a couple of weeks ago Tish were celebrating one of the best wins over the season over champions Neyland. In contrast they are now planning for second division cricket next season after their loss to title chasing Carew meant they finished just a single below Llangwm. Tish only managed to score 126 for 7, a score they were always unlikely to defend against an in form Carew side. Less than a month ago not many would have bet on Tish being the team to end up in the relegation zone, however cricket is an unpredictable sport as we see on a weekly basis.
