Carew went into this one needing a big win to keep up pressure on leaders Neyland. Cresselly are out of the title race but were very keen to disrupt their old rivals charge for the title. Carew made no mistake winning by a huge 197 runs, moving within eight points of league leaders Neyland ahead of their much-anticipated clash this coming Saturday.
Batting first, Carew posted an imposing total of 286 for 6, powered by a series of strong contributions from their top and middle order. Tim Hicks set the tone with a solid 56, while Shaun Whitfield added a brisk 43. All rounder James Hinchliffe hit an unbeaten 63 and Nick Davies contributing a quickfire 41 not out, ensuring Carew set a daunting target.
Cresselly’s bowlers toiled hard but struggled to contain the flow of runs. Charlie Arthur was the pick of the bowlers with 2-39, while Dan James, Tom Arthur, Ollie Arthur, and Matthew Morgan each managing to claim a wicket. However, none could stem the tide as Carew's batsmen dominated the innings.
In reply, Cresselly never looked comfortable against a fierce Carew bowling attack. Iori Hicks was the standout performer, tearing through the Cresselly batting lineup with figures of 5 for 15. James Hinchliffe capped off a fine all-round performance with 3 for 22, while Rhys Davies and Shaun Whitfield picked up a wicket each. Cresselly were bowled out for just 89, with only Neilson Cole’s 28 offering any resistance. The 24 extras conceded by Carew were the only other significant contributor to Cresselly’s total.
