Things at the bottom of the county's top division were tight before last weekend's games. They are even tighter now thanks to some crucial wins and a couple of shocks.
We start in division one at the foot of the table. Narberth faced Haverfordwest in what really was a must win game if they were to stay in the fight for survival. Win they did and now are only eight points behind Haverfordwest who may rue this loss at the end of the season. Town were only able to score 119 with openers Adam James (20) and Paul Tough (39) getting the bulk of the runs. Matthew Johns took four wickets for just five runs in a great spell of bowling and all rounder Loui Davies took 4-28 and proved how much he was missed at the start of the season. The chase was far from plain sailing and it was in the end Matthew Johns who saw his team over the line as he used all of his experience to end unbeaten on 17 in what was a match winning effort from Johns with bat and ball.
Elsewhere fellow relegation candidates Tish had a shocking and brilliant win over the league leaders in what was one of our feature matches this week. Llangwm were never in the contest at title chasing Carew, the Rooks scored 285 for 7 in their innings with Davies (57) and Hicks (71) leading the way, with plenty of useful contributions from their team mates. George Waters then blew Llangwm's batting line up away with a spell of bowling which returned him figures of 5 for 6, a day to remember for the bowler. Llangwm were 76 all out and are still left looking over their shoulder.
Whitland picked up an important win as they beat Lawrenny the win keeps them three places and 17 points ahead of Haverfordwest who occupy second bottom which is the drop zone. Geiraint Jones was the man of the match for his team as he followed his 4-41 up with a vital knock of 43 which alongside Jonathan Thomas' 50 led their team to victory. Whilst Whitland aren't safe yet, they certainly wouldn't swap their league position for any of their rivals. A win at home to Haverfordwest this coming weekend could see them all but safe.
