Division 1 Round-Up - 06/07/2024

The latest round of fixtures in Pembrokeshire's First Division saw some thrilling cricket action, with notable performances and a few thrilling games. The results mean the table is getting tighter and more tense by the week. The out of form Tish and Narberth are having a bad run of it and need to stop the rot fast so to speak to avoid dropping out of the division. Llangwm show they are really up for the battle at the wrong end of the league whilst Whitland won brilliantly over Cresellly.

Cresselly vs Whitland

Whitland secured a crucial 19-run victory over Cresselly in a high-scoring encounter. Batting first, Whitland posted a competitive 230 for 9 in their 50 overs. Scott Newton was the standout performer with an unbeaten 74, supported by Kevin Pearce’s 43 and a significant contribution of 40 extras. Cresselly's bowlers, especially Tom Arthur with 4 for 46, tried to contain Whitland but faced stiff resistance.

In response, Cresselly fell short, ending their innings at 211 for 9. Despite Phil Williams' 36 and a resilient 33 not out from Neilson Cole, Whitland's bowling attack, led by Connor Bowen (3-19) and Wayne Howells (3-34), proved too strong. The combined efforts saw Whitland triumph by 19 runs.

Haverfordwest vs Lawrenny

In a thrilling game Lawrenny clinched a thrilling 3-wicket victory over Haverfordwest. Haverfordwest, batting first, managed 173 all out, thanks largely to Mikey Jones' impressive 85. Lawrenny's bowlers, particularly Oscar Lewis with 3 for 28, were effective in breaking partnerships at crucial moments.

Chasing 174, Lawrenny reached their target with 3 wickets in hand. Harry Thomas anchored the innings with an unbeaten 51, while Ryan Morton and Will Allen chipped in with 30 and 35 respectively. The match, officiated by Gareth Brace, saw Lawrenny successfully chase down the target, finishing at 175 for 7.

Narberth vs Llangwm

Llangwm dominated Narberth in a low-scoring game, winning by 7 wickets. Narberth, batting first, collapsed to 75 all out, with Llew Jones (24) and Jack Bowen (18) the only batsmen to reach double figures. Llangwm’s Matthew Kiff led the bowling with 3 for 18, supported by Steve Mills and Noah Davies, who picked up two wickets each.

In reply, Llangwm chased down the modest target in just 16 overs, finishing at 78 for 3. Steve Mills (22 not out) and Noah Davies (22) ensured a comfortable victory for their side.

Neyland vs Saundersfoot

Neyland posted a commanding 65-run win over Saundersfoot. Batting first, Neyland amassed 214 for 5, with notable contributions from Dai Davies (82 not out) and Ross Hardy (51). Saundersfoot’s bowlers struggled to contain the run flow, with John Mansbridge the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 42.

Saundersfoot’s chase faltered, as they were bowled out for 149. John Mansbridge (56) and Danny Caine (34) fought valiantly, but Neyland’s bowlers, led by Jack John (4 for 22) and Jamie Smith (3 for 31), dismantled the batting line-up, securing a comprehensive victory for Neyland.
St Ishmaels vs Carew

Carew cruised to a 9-wicket win over St Ishmaels. Batting first, St Ishmaels were restricted to 99 all out, with Stuart Carpenter (21) and Steve Williams (20) providing some resistance. Carew’s Joel Read was in fine form, claiming 4 for 28, while James Hinchliffe supported well with 2 for 18.

Carew chased down the target with ease, reaching 100 for 1. Rhys Davies’ unbeaten 40 and Morgan Grieve’s 28 laid a solid foundation, and Jon Rogers’ 23 not out ensured a swift and comfortable victory.
