This week our team had the had the pleasure of being invited by VC Gallery CEO Barry John MBE to join him and some of the VC Gallery members at their 'Dig for Victory' project. This exciting initiative, funded by the Armed Forces Covenant, aims to engage ex-military personnel and community members in a variety of gardening activities.

The 'Dig for Victory' project is not just about gardening; it’s about bringing people together, fostering a sense of community, and providing a therapeutic environment for veterans and those at the VC Gallery. From planting seeds to building bird boxes and benches, and even designing flower gardens, this project offers something for everyone. The serene location at St. Ishmael's, with its stunning views looking out to sea, provides a perfect backdrop for these activities.

We arrived at St. Ishmael's on a bright Tuesday morning, eager to learn more about the project and its impact. The journey began with a warm welcome from Barry and the other project members. One of the highlights of our visit was learning about the rich history of the site during the Second World War. The stories and historical significance of the location added a deeper layer of meaning to the project. It was fascinating to see how the past and present come together in this unique setting, providing a space for reflection and growth.

We were also joined by Chinese Media students from Cardiff University who were filming a documentary on PTSD and how the VC Gallery works in this field.

Our visit was made even more memorable by the delightful coffee and homemade risotto we enjoyed on site. Prepared with care and served in the midst of the beautiful gardens, it was a perfect way to relax and take in the surroundings. The communal aspect of sharing a meal added to the sense of camaraderie and community spirit.
