The first division yet again produced quality cricket and plenty to discuss, and this week thankfully the weather didn't play any part. Table toppers Neyland met second placed Carew in a vital clash at the top of the table. Whilst struggling Haverfordwest faced third place Cresselly in a game both teams needed to win for very different reasons.
Neyland 193/7 beat Carew 95 all out
We start our round up at the very top as reigning champions Neyland took on Carew with the Rooks knowing a win would really change how the top of the table looked. Neyland however had very different ideas Carew won the toss and decided to stick Neyland in to bat first perhaps after the weather on Friday thinking the pitch maybe tricky. However Neyland put in a real team effort to reach 193/7 a good total having being asked to bat first. Dai Davies really dug in to make a gritty 23 from 76 balls while McDermott-Jenkins (23), Webster (29) and Sean Hannon who ended unbeaten on 50 from 53, added to a solid foundation set by Neyland's top order. All rounder Jon Rogers returned figures of 2-36 from his 9 overs while Rhys Davies bowled brilliantly to end with 2-17 from 9 overs including 4 maidens.
Carew then set about chasing their target however despite Gareth Lewis adding 32 and Rogers adding 20 were dominated by the Neyland attack as they were 95 all out. Veteran Andrew Miller was the match winner for his team as he took 5-17 a brilliant spell from the Neyland legend. Tom Pritchard also picked up three wickets all be it more expensive as he went at almost seven an over. An emphatic win for Neyland and a message to the rest of the league that they'll take some beating this year.
Cresselly 274/7 beat Haverfordwest 224/8
Like rivals Carew, Haverfordwest also won the toss and decided to bowl as they faced Cresselly. Cresselly clearly weren't phased by batting first as they scored a huge 274/7 thanks mainly to a brilliant century from opener Phil Williams as he scored 109 from 123 balls. He was well supported for a large portion of his innings by number 3 Charlie Arthur who added 71 including four 6s. Alex Bayley added a useful 39 to ensure his team set a big total for Town to chase.
Mikey Jones' good form continued as he scored 42 opening the batting for Town, however both Field brothers fell for golden duck's. Jake Merry batted well for his 80 from 110 balls while skipper Phillips (27) and Perera (23) added useful runs however they fell 50 short of their target as they ended on 224/8 a good effort from Phillips' team and it should give them confidence going into the coming weeks.
Saundersfoot 271/3 beat Llangwm 133 all out
A fantastic century from Tom Mansfield guided his team to a big win over Llangwm. His 114 ensured his team made a huge first innings total, he was well supported by Caine (41), and Cope (53*) in what was a good all round batting performance from Saundersfoot. Ollie Davies picked up two wickets but conceded 70 runs in his spell in what was a tough afternoon for the Llangwm bowlers.
The afternoon didn't get much better for Llangwm Matthew Kiff (44) and Davies again (18) showed some fight but Llangwm were dismissed for 133 with Tom Mansbridge impressing with the ball as he took 4-42 whilst Sam Franklin took 3-36. The win puts Saundersfoot into fifth place while Llangwm sit second from bottom.
Lawrenny 90/3 beat St Ishmaels 89 all out
It was a day to forget for Tish as they were dismissed for just 89 as Ryan Morton blew their batting order away with a amazing spell of 7-27. Jon Pawlett made 50 of the 89 as he found batting much easier than his team mates on the day as he lacked any real support.
Lawrenny passed the target easily losing just three wickets as Harry Thomas hit 51, Steve Williams impressed once again with the ball as he took 3-20.
Whitland 114/4 beat Narbeth 111 all out
Narberth batted first in this clash and only managed to make 111 as Cian Rees and Geiraint Jones both took three wickets in a vital win for their team. Jordan Howell battled hard as he reached 41 while Ben Hughes also dug in for 31, however 111 was never likely to be enough.
Kevin Perace and Geiraint Jones combined to ensure their team got over the line as they now sit ahead of Narberth in the table by 11 points. Importantly they've created a gap between themselves and Llangwm and Haverfordwest who both currently sit in the relegation zone.
