Pembrokeshire Division 1 Cricket Round-Up: June 8th
Carew beat Llangwm by 7 wickets, successfully chasing down 212 runs after Steven Mills continued his excellent form to set the Rooks a tough target to chase. Mills was the standout performer for yet again scoring a remarkable 119. He was supported by Luke Brock with 38 runs. Barry Evans delivered a commendable bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 39 runs. His bowling has become a real thorn in the side of batsmen in the second division over the past two seasons and Saturday saw his bowling grace the first division and very effective it was too. Llangwm however couldn't defend their total as Carew reached 214 for 3, thanks mainly to Morgan Grieve (68) and Rhys Davies (42). Llangwm's downfall was extras they conceded a huge 47 extras in the field which made Carew's chase much easier. Mills was their biggest threat with the ball as he returned figures of 2-38, the result highlights Llangwm's individual quality but also their lack of strength in depth.
Narberth secured a 7 wicket victory against Haverfordwest, successfully chasing a modest target of 109. Kyle Quartermaine was instrumental in the win with an unbeaten 45 which guided his team over the line. Town struggled with the bat, their highest scorer was the experienced Dan Field with a impressive 39 but he lacked any real support as town only managed to make 109. Narberth's bowlers, particularly Ben Quartermaine with 3-40, played a crucial role in restricting Haverfordwest. Town look to be in real trouble in their return to the first division as they sit rock bottom.
Table toppers Neyland won once again this time beating Tish by 7 wickets, chasing down 188 with ease and seven wickets in hand. Ashley Sutton’s unbeaten 58, alongside Paul Murray’s 59, guided Neyland to a comfortable victory. Tish' Thomas Williams scored 54 and Andrew Pawlett contributed 36 not out in what was a very respectable target however not enough to put real pressure on this Neyland outift.
Hot on Neyland's heels at the top of the division are Cresselly who dominated Saundersfoot with a massive 202 run victory. Scott Arthur’s brilliant 112 propelled Cresselly to an imposing total of 271 for 4, Phil Williams 56 and Alex Bayley 41* also making important contributions to bat Saundersfoot out of the game. Saundersfoot struggled in response, as they were skittled for just 69. Tom Arthur was outstanding with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 5 runs, and Charlie Arthur was equally effective with 2 wickets for no runs, a real statement win for Cresselly who keep up their excellent form.
Lawrenny claimed a 23-run victory over Whitland, posting 203 all out and then restricting Whitland to 180 for 7. Tom Cole’s 79 was the stand out innings for Lawrenny while Rhys Eynon added 22 and Troy Pursloe added 28 to set Whitland 204 to win. Geraint Jones was impressive with the ball for Whitland as he took 4-34, 203 would have been a score they firmly believed they could chase at tea. In response Jonathan Thomas led the way with 54 however he struggled to find any real support as Ryan Morton 3-29, Rob Williams 2-19, Finley Lewis 2-38 all impressed with the ball as they made it hard for Whitland's top order to get going.
