We are into June already and the league table is really starting to take shape, last weekend produced yet more exciting cricket around the county. We begin our round up in Carew where the hosts chased down a decent total posted by visitors Whitland who have struggled for wins so far this season. Scott Newton (65) and Gopal Ramasamey (58) got the bulk of the runs for the visitors while Rhys Davies, Jon Rogers and Shaun Whitfield all picked up three wickets. It was a day for the all rounders as Rhys Davies (76), Rogers (20) and Whitfield (25) all made key contributions to the successful chase with the bat. The win puts Carew into third place and leaves Whitland still searching for their second win of the season.
Narberth are a dangerous outfit in the league and have posted some impressive scores already this season however their batting line up didn't fire on all cylinders Saturday as they were 111 all out, unlucky for some. Tom Arthur (3-15) and Iori Thomas (3-19) were the pick of the bowlers whilst hard hitting batsman Kyle Quartermaine top scored with 25. Cresselly passed the total with no real dramas only losing two wickets, keeping them in touch with Neyland at the top of the table.
Haverfordwest were comfortably beaten by top of the table Neyland which is one of our feature games this week, you can find this report on our website or social media platforms.
Llangwm showed once again that having two of the county's best in the their ranks means on their day they can beat anyone. Steve Mills (118) and Steve Inward (77) completely dominated Lawrenny's bowling attack as they led their team to a good total 249-5, two outstanding innings by two outstanding players. Mills wasn't done yet though and really put in shift with the ball and took 5-37, no prizes for guessing who was our man of the match in this one.
Karl Rhead's brilliant unbeaten 99 wasn't enough to earn his team a win as they lost to Saundersfoot by 6 wickets. Rhead anchored the Tish innings brilliantly as they reached 187 all out with him stranded on 99, the lack of any real significant support proved costly. Saundersfoot's innings was more of a team effort with Tom Mansbridge (49), Sam Franklin (51) and John Mansbridge 35* all making vital contributions with the bat.
The results leave Haverfordwest bottom of the table just behind Narberth, Whitland and Llangwm in what we predict to be a real tight battle at the bottom. Of the current bottom four you would say all have quality players that will steer them away from trouble, but they are guilty of lacking a bit of strength in depth. Llangwm will be very pleased to see Mills and Inward in form and any team with those two in form will have enough in the tank to steer themselves clear of the drop.
