Two fairly evenly matched teams met in the Harrison Allen Second Round as Lawrenny took on Tish. In a thrilling encounter, Lawrenny won an absolute classic by five wickets but that’s doesn’t tell the story as they won from the very last ball of the match.
St Ishmaels batted first and posted a competitive total of 151 for 5 in their allotted overs. Karl Rhead was the standout performer with the bat once again, scoring an impressive 78 runs to add to his unbeaten 99 on Saturday. He was well-supported by Phil Llewellyn, who contributed 31 runs. Andrew Pawlett and Steve Hartley both added 11 runs, with Hartley remaining unbeaten. The pick of the bowlers for Lawrenny was Finley Lewis, who claimed 4 wickets for 31 runs, while Harry Thomas chipped in with 1 for 22.
Chasing 152 for victory which isn’t a huge score in the Harrison Allen these days, Lawrenny got off to a solid start, thanks to Harry Thomas, who top-scored with 63 runs. Contributions from Troy Pursloe (15), Will Nicholas (21), and Ryan Morton, who remained not out on 27, kept Lawrenny in the hunt. Despite the best efforts of Tish' bowlers, particularly Steve Williams who took 4 wickets for 31 runs, Lawrenny managed to reach the target on the final ball of the match. Jon Pawlett also bowled economically, finishing with figures of 1 for 47.
