Lamphey 171 all out | lost to | Johnston 172 for 4 |
Lee Summons fell just four runs short of an outstanding century as he led his team to an impressive win which see's them move into fourth place. The hosts batted first and David Blackwell with an impressive 76 led the innings, he was supported by in form David Dredge before he fell for 34. Johnston limited Lamphey to 171 all out thanks mainly due to a great spell of bowling from their skipper Chris Fitzpatrick as he picked up five wickets for just 21. Lee Summons as ever bowled with pace and aggression as he picked up 2-31, whilst Liam James also picked up two wickets. 171 a competitive score, Lamphey knew at tea Johnston had a few very dangerous players and it would be vital they got them early.
Summons very much falls into the that bracket of "dangerous players" and the hosts failed to get him early, he batted in his usual classy way stroking the ball around the ground as he reached 96 before being dismissed, however by that time it was more or less job done. Summons has found very useful support recently from Lewis Boswell and the pair seem to bat well together. Saturday was another example of that as Boswell added a good 49 before youngster George Twigg was on hand to guide his team home with a mature unbeaten 12.
Another important win for Fitzpatrick's team who in past season's have found themselves in relegation battles despite having plenty of quality needed to stay in this league. This win puts them into fourth place and a start to the season everyone at the club will be happy with we suspect.
