With the cricket season just weeks away, Connect will take you through our very own cricket countdown. Giving you the details club by club and our predictions for the coming season.
Our first three teams we bring you are old rivals Carew and Cresselly as well as the county town Haverfordwest. Three clubs with a huge histories of success and three of the biggest clubs in the county for sure.
Pembrokeshire Cricket needs Haverfordwest in the First Division and it’s great to see them back. A club with four teams and a real hub for junior cricket north of the Cleddau. Carew and Cresselly are huge rivals and will have very similar goals for the coming season, to challenge Neyland for the league title and for cup success.
Carew
Captain - Rhys Davies
Last season League - 2nd place
Last season Harrison Allen - Semi-finalists
Prediction - As always Carew will be one of the best teams in the county and will have aspirations of going one step further this year. Having finished second last season, the league title will be in their sights this season and definitely a cup final or two.
Cresselly
Captain - Tom Arthur
Last season League - 3rd place
Last season Harrison Allen - 2nd round
Prediction - With a few improvements here and there Arthur’s team could definitely challenge for the league title. A huge disappointment for them last season will have been an early Harrison Allen exit, which they’ll be very keen to make amends for this coming season.
Haverfordwest
Captain - Chris Phillips
Last season League - Division 2 Champions
Last season Harrison Allen - 1st round
Prediction - Chris Phillips led his team to the league title and promotion last year as many would have expected. It’s fair to say they didn’t blow the league away but their quality did shine through. A team still in somewhat of a transition will be looking to reestablish themselves as first division mainstays and aim for some cup success after a short-lived Harrison Allen campaign last season.
This year also marks a very special milestone for Haverfordwest who are celebrating their bicentenary year as the oldest Cricket Club in Wales having been founded in 1824.
