Goodwick United took a decisive step towards retaining the Division One title with a 3-0 victory over rivals Hakin United thanks to a brace from Rhys Jones and a goal from Captain Scott Delaney.
Although one point behind Hakin at the top of the table prior to the game, the Phoenix Boys had four games in hand and remained undefeated in the league.
With their eyes on a treble (Division One, Senior Cup and the West Wales Cup), Goodwick would have been hungry to enjoy home celebrations over Hakin, following a frantic 4-4 draw earlier in the season at the Obs.
Goodwick would have known there would have been no room for complacency, facing an experienced Hakin side with players returning since last weekend's victory over Neyland.
Sion O'Sullivan stepped into the Goodwick starting XI, with Jake Smith out injured. Sean Pemberton also made his second start since signing for the club.
Goodwick opened the scoring just before half-time when captain Scott Delaney headed home at the far post from a Luke Hayward corner.
The lead was then doubled in the 76th minute when Mr. Consistent Rhys Jones once again showed his quality from set-pieces, scoring another fantastic free-kick.
Jones then got on the scoresheet again to complete the victory, thanks to another assist from Luke Hayward.
The result sees Goodwick move to the top of the table on 41 points, two points ahead of Hakin having played four games less, moving them just three victories away from retaining their league title.
