The second division got underway last weekend and predictably produced some low scoring innings in what looks set to be a very competitive league. With two strong teams coming down and up into the division it looks set to be one of the strongest second divisions we have seen for many years.
Burton having come down will be hoping to be battling it out at the top of this league and they made the perfect start against local rivals Hook. Carew's second string beat Llechryd in no small part thanks to Kerry Waters who took an outstanding 4-9 before Luke Hicks (48) and Ian Sefton (32*) got the Rooks over the line with the bat.
Johnston under new captain Chris Fitzpatrick travelled to Llanrhian these teams know eachother inside out now after many battles over the past few years. Johnston posted an impressive 174-8 on a tricky pitch thanks mainly to star player Lee Summons who scored 81. Johnston's bowlers then followed up a good display dismissing Llanrhian for 62, Liam James impressing taking 4-16.
Pembroke are back in the division after being promoted and have no desire to be anywhere near the bottom of the table this season. They scored a massive 254 which on the first weekend of the season is very impressive and then bowled out local rivals Lamphey for just 126. Ceri Brace showing he will be a key player with bat and ball again this season and the result is a real statement from Pembroke at the start of the season.
Finally Pembroke Dock were beaten by Herbrandston who like Burton look like they will be at the top of this division with the quality they have in their ranks. A mix of youth in Charlie Malloy who contributed 40 and 2-18 and experience in the likes of Rob Hood and Kristan Bennett who took 4-23 will serve the village well this season.
