The fourth match day in the second division produced yet more quality cricket and some outstanding individual performances.
Carew's second string have made a good start to the season, however Monday saw them suffer their first defeat at the hands of Pembroke. Pembroke set a good target of 235 with some good knocks from Jack Harries (70) and Billy Wood (50) with others chipping in with useful 20s. Carew's batting line up is full of experience and quality and Pembroke would have known they needed to work hard in the field to defend this. Despite a half century for Adam Chandler nobody really got going or kicked on from their starts as former player Ceri Brace came back to haunt them with a good spell of 4-28, whilst fellow spinner Sam Davies bowled very well and picked up 3-14.
Herbrandston are flying and beat Burton last time out and Harry Nicholas' outstanding unbeaten century ensured Herbie were top of the tree come Monday night. Hook batted first and reached 205 thanks to a good innings from Aled Phelps (86) and Liam Miller (48) however Nicholas showed once your in, going from 50 to 100 wins you games. Herbie have now played four won four, whilst Hook only have the one win to their name so far.
The lowest scoring game of the day was between Lamphey and Llechryd. Lamphey who've had a tough start to the season following promotion were bowled out for just 105, with James Henneker the thorn in their side claiming four wickets. Kevin Evans also impressed with the ball picking up 3 for 18. Llechryd have a fair amount of fire power in their ranks and 105 was never going to be enough and Llechryd passed it losing just three wickets.
Burton bounced back brilliantly from their loss to Herbie scoring 245 batting first against Llanrhian, mainly thanks to an excellent ton by Joe Kiff who's 113 proved to be match winning. Kiff was well supported by Dan Llewelyn who himself scored 63. It was over to the bowlers and Luke Hayman was keen to sample a cold beer as he took a brilliant 4-17 while Jack Bevan also bowled well to claim three wickets of his own. Burton looking like a very strong outfit in this league.
Chris Fitzpatrick's Johnston hammered Pembroke Dock by a huge margin of 153 runs. Batting first Johnston showed how dangerous their batting line up can be. They've started the past two seasons slowly and have had to go on good runs in the second half of the season to secure their second division status, however a more than solid start this year. Lee Summons opened the batting and added a typically classy 76, he was well supported by skipper Fitzpatrick who himself added 40 and Lewis Boswell who had a great knock of 71. What followed was a real team effort with the ball Summons, James and Fitzpatrick all picking up a couple of wickets whilst Keegan Codd picked up 3-26. An impressive win for Johnston and it leaves Pembroke Dock bottom of the pile after four games.
