The weather was kind to us once again and it allowed for a full compliment of fixtures in the first division. Lawrenny and Narberth played out a high scoring and thrilling contest with Lawrenny narrowly coming out on top by just one run.
Harry Thomas and Will Nicholas both made 78 for Lawrenny and a real collective effort from the bowling attack made sure they got their first win of the season. Credit must go to Narberth too however who chased really well and on another day it could have gone their way, Ben Quartermaine 54, Jamie McCormack 53 and Jack Bowen 49 all made good contributions with the bat, but it wasn't quite enough.
Carew showed the quality of their bowling attack as they blew Haverfordwest away dismissing them for just 49 a score that was never going to be enough to put any pressure on the Carew batting line up. Carew took just 9 overs to reach the total and lost just the one wicket in the process.
Llangwm suffered their second heavy defeat in as many games as they were bowled out for just 87 against last seasons champions Neyland. James Lewis battled well to get to 46 for Llangwm and without him the score would have been a lot less respectable. Neyland predictably passed this total easily and didn't lose a wicket along the way. The champions have started perfectly whilst Llangwm look to be in for a long hard season.
There was another low scoring affair between Tish and Cresselly however this was a much closer game than the other low scoring games elsewhere. St Ishmaels won the toss and elected to field, and when they dismissed Cresselly for just 93 it seemed like a good call. Alex Bayley top scored for Cresselly with 30 after opener Phil Williams had added 21 off 80 balls showing how tough it was to score, while Charlie Arthur added 16 which proved pivotal. Tish' reply started with a farther and son opening pair in Karl and Lewis Rhead. Karl gave Tish a good start with 35 from 80 balls, however at the other end wickets were falling. Nobody else got into double figures and Tish were bowled out for 71, which will frustrate them. A gritty 20 from someone in tough conditions for batting would have been the difference and highlights the importance of Arthur and Phil Williams' support of Alex Bayley's 30.
Tom Mansbridge was outstanding with bat and ball in Saundersfoot's win over Whitland. Batting first Mansbridge made a great knock of 75, while Sam Franklin added 34 as their team made 154. Scott Newton had a good day with the ball taking 5-21 and played a key role in limiting Saundersfoot to 154. Danny Caine having added 10 with the bat, wasn't in the mood for a nail biting finish and he bowled well to take 3-14 alongside man of the match Mansbridge who took 2-19. Whitland didn't really get going despite a few batsmen getting starts in Jon Thomas 27 and Gopal Ramasamey 18.
