Alfie Crawford was the match winner for Johnston as they won the Division Two Cup with a 3-2 victory over Monkton Swifts 2nds at the Ogi bridge Meadow Stadium on Wednesday 1st May 2024.
The Tigers started the game brightly and took the lead when Craig Bendall headed home from Kieran Blundell's free-kick.
The Swifts hit back five minutes later, getting an equaliser when Billy Davis was set up by Josh Sture.
Johnston then regained the lead in the 23rd minute after fantastic footwork from Alfie Crawford to beat the defender, before his low cross was met by his father Scott Crawford to fire home.
In a closely fought first half, both sides created chances, with the Swifts firing over the bar from a one-on-one chance to miss the opportunity to equalise.
In a tighter second half, the Swifts did find an equaliser with Jordan Kilby scoring to level up the game.
It was Alfie Crawford who was to become the hero for the Tigers, after an excellent ball played through over the top by his father Scott, with the 16 year old cooly finishing on the volley past the onrushing goalkeeper, his 23rd goal of an excellent debut campaign.
