Narberth 2nds showed their battling determination to win the Division Five Cup on penalties after a 2-2 draw with Hundleton on Tuesday 7th May 2024.

It was an entertaining affair down Monkton Swifts, with the scores level at 1-1 after 90 minutes and 2-2 after extra time.

There were not too many chances in the first half, with Narberth 2nds being denied a penalty after it looked like the Hundleton goalkeeper had brought down their attacker. At the other end, Jason Jones made some good stops to keep Hundleton quiet.

Hundleton threatened early in the second half, with Andy Evans hitting the cross bar. Evans had another decent chance in the 75th minute where he headed wide from a corner.

Hundleton finally broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute with an excellent first time volley from Jack Steele, with an assist for substitute Stefan Sandford.

Narberth 2nds were denied a couple more strong penalty shouts with a similar challenge from the Hundleton goalkeeper going unpunished, as well as a possible handball in the box.

There was to be a late twist, with Narberth 2nds finally being awarded a penalty for a push in the area.

The Narberth 2nds goalkeeper Jason Jones stepped up to dispatch the spot kick to give the game an extra 30 minutes.

Narberth 2nds came out strongly with a new lease of life, and took the lead just a few minutes in when Ryan Williams header was fumbled over the line.

Hundleton responded with a good chance of their own, with Jack Steele inches away from connecting with Stefan Sandford's cross across the box, after good work to beat the defender.

Narberth 2nds goalkeeper Jason Jones was called into action once again just a few minutes later, making a fantastic save to denied Sandford.

Hundleton did however score from the resulting corner, with James Risley heading in to equalise.

With the game level after 120 minutes, it was time for a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Narberth 2nds showed their composure, dispatching four good penalties including one from their goalkeeper Jones. Hundleton saw their third penalty saved by Jones, before hitting their fourth penalty over the bar.
