Neyland 215/9 vs Cresselly 205/4 Match Abandoned Due to Rain

Two of the county's strongest outfits met on Saturday 25th May in a big game in the first division. Cresselly visited Neyland and won the toss and elected to field first. It was an all round good display of bowling and fielding from the visitors as they limited Neyland to 215/9 from their 45 overs. Opener Paul Murray top scored for the hosts with 63 from 64 balls, while Andrew Miller (44) and Sean Hannon 25* also made useful contributions. Thomas and Charlie Arthur both picked up two wickets each and at a good economy rate, this was a theme throughout the bowlers who all went at less than a run a ball.

Cresselly set about their reply and all was going to plan until the weather set in. With the visitors 205 for 4 and with Alex Bayley 68* and Neilson Cole 28* a win was well within their sights and a fairly comfortable one at that. Simon Cole hit a half century in what was an excellent chase for the visitors which would have surely meant a huge win if the weather hadn't come in as it did. The only question around the chase is with weather around and wickets in hand could the visitors have taken some more risks to try and get over the line before the rain came in. However hindsight is a wonderful thing and that approach against this quality opponent could have easily resulted in a loss. Despite not getting the win the performance will be a huge positive for Cresselly.
