On the 1st of June, we see the return of the Welsh Firefighter Challenge, which this year will be held in Swansea marina. The Welsh Firefighter Challenge is a regional sporting event run. alongside The British Firefighter Challenge. It is for both serving and retired firefighters. The aims of this event are to raise much needed funds for The Firefighters Charity and also to raise awareness within the communities in which we serve.
The 2023 event was held in Swansea city centre, having used Parc Y Scarlets in the first ever Welsh Firefighter Challenge back in 2022. Firefighters from all across our community will be taking part in the challenge in June. Two of Narberth's fire crew, Watch Manager Dominic Norcross and Crew Manager Tim Frost have led the event from the outset. With the growth of the challenge the organisational team has grown with it and other local members of the fire service now help with making sure the event runs smoothly.
This years entry sold out within just eight hours which shows how well the event has been run in the two previous years as interest continues to grow. Everyone will be hoping for some dry weather on the day and maybe even a bit of sunshine, however the firefighters taking part in the challenge will be hoping it's not too warm as the challenge is done in full fire kit.
Firefighters from stations across the county will be taking part and all support for the event will be warmly received. We'll be covering the event and bringing all results and photographs to you following the event. An event that'll be competitive but all in the right spirit makes for entertaining viewing. The course consists of eight challenges including a 50m run, 50m hose carry and a dummy drag, as well as the corhaven force challenge. For a preview of the event we have included some pictures from last years event.
