HERBERT TOWNSEND SHIELD FINAL - SECOND DIVISION DOUBLES
After '20 years of trying' the Hook Sports Club pair of Jonathan Davies and Mark James lifted the second division doubles cup at the Conservative Club on Monday night.
They played Peter Thomas and Andy Roach from the Balfour Club in a best of five frames final.
Watched by quite a large crowd, the first frame was the usual cagey affair with the lead going back and forth. Eventually Mark got the chance for a win but agonisingly went in-off the final black.
Andy and Peter got the second frame off to a good start with small breaks to take a decent lead. Jonathan and Mark managed to get back into the frame, but a very good blue and pink from Peter saw the Balfour make it 2-0.
Jonathan and Mark came out fighting in the third frame and compiled a decent lead. They kept things tight for the remainder of the frame not giving Andy and Peter any chances and in the end won the frame easily.
The Hook pair continued in the same vein in the fourth frame, scoring well and keeping their opponents on the back foot, and ultimately took the frame by a margin.
The deciding fifth frame was very tight with good safety from both sides, but Jonathan and Mark managed to dig in and finally take the frame for the cup victory.
Shane Tucker, Richard Shinner and Daniel Tucker had the white gloves on, and Daniel made sure the table was like glass.
