League leaders Caernarfon Town returned to North Wales with a point from the game at the Bridge Meadow stadium, where the opening goal of the game came for Haverfordwest courtesy of Ben Ahumn sending Connor Roberts the wrong way from the penalty spot on 38 minutes after he nicked the ball away from centre half Phil Mooney from a beautifully weighted through ball form Corey Shephard.
Ahumn and fellow frontman Ben Fawcett combined well throughout the half, the Bluebirds holding court midway through the half and both had chances, midfielder Iori Humphries slotted the ball inside Domonic Smith, but Fawcett couldn’t finish, Ahumn pulling his effort wide of the far post as skipper Shephard once again set him up. It was a feature of the play how Fawcett, despite his diminutive stature held up the ball to feed Ahumn or the oncoming Shephard, Humphries and wing back Rhys Abbruzesse.
Referee Ryan Kenny set his stall out early and yellow cards were received by Caernarfon’s Sam Downey inside 10 minutes and then the Bluebirds Shephard and Iwan Lewis after a disagreement, Fawcett also incurring the wrath of Kenny for a foul. Dan Hawkins made a goal bound clearance before the half time whistle, goalkeeper Luc Rees controlled in his defensive duties, with a one handed goal line save a feature alongside his distribution as Fawcett and Ahumn ran tirelessly as the outlets for the Bluebirds as they surged forward towards the Prendergast end.
Ahumn had a header within a minute of the restart and Roberts made a great goal line save, the travelling Cofio Army helped their side build momentum. As the game entered its final quarter, corners and free kicks around the final third from Sion Bradley into the mixer causing issue, Rees again constantly the resolute last line of defence, bravely taking a blow to the face at the feet of Adam Davies in front of 476 spectators in attendance.
The equaliser came on75 minutes, little surprise it came from a dead ball situation, Bradleys in swinging corner met by the head of Smith who left Kyle McCarthy flat footed to beat fellow centre half partner Alaric Jones to the ball, Jones one of those who also collected a yellow card between Greg Walters and goalkeeper Rees in the second half, substitute Luc Owen also finding his name in the referees back book within 2 minutes of arriving on the field.
Caernarfon were much the better side in the second half, Ricky Watts a leader at the back for the Town at the Castle end, Dan Gossett and Smith the fulcrum for the visitors attack, albeit the creativity not testing man of the match, Rees, the home custodian forcing Davies into missing a gilt edged last minute winner as he made himself an imposing figure and Davies pushed the ball over the bar.
