It was another win for Burton this weekend as they continued their hot run of form at home to Lawrenny. It was the away side who won the toss, with skipper Ryan Morton choosing to bat first at Oatfield Park. The bowling attack for Burton started strongly, with the opening duo of Jon Scale (3-20) and Luke Hayman (1-34) taking early wickets, which included a run out off Hayman’s bowling. This left Lawrenny struggling at 27-5. However, they were able to pull the game back slightly, with Tom Cole (30) and Finley Lewis (17) adding to the score. Gavin Campbell picked up the wicket of the latter as he edged one behind and into the hands of Martin James, with Gavin picking up the figures of 3-29 and seeing Lawrenny bowled out for 110. It was the key pair of Toby Hayman and Joseph Kiff who saw Burton over the line scoring 37 each. With six runs needed to win, it was Kiff who smashed the winning runs over the boundary, a maximum with the last delivery of the match. Burton won the match by 8 wickets and momentarily move to sixth place with Lawrenny yet to play their rearranged fixture against Neyland.
Cresselly remain top of the division after their win at home against third place Saundersfoot. Home captain Tom Arthur decided to bowl first, handing himself the opportunity to add to his wicket tally for the season and help his side remain at the top of the pyramid. An opportunity he didn’t hesitate to take, picking up the figures of 2-30. He was one of four players to pick up two wickets in the match, with the wickets shared between Tom Murphy (2-10), Charlie Arthur (2-14) and Simon Cole (2-19). However, they couldn’t prevent Jon Mansbridge from performing with the bat, with the Saundersfoot all-rounder picking up yet another half century for the season, reaching 52 before being dismissed. Despite this, the rest of the order struggled to score against the strong Cresselly attack, as the away side were bowled out for 149. The home side only needed one man to score a 20+ score to pass their target, and that man was Kyle Quartermaine. Kyle scored 98 of the 149 required as Cresselly passed the target for the loss of 3 wickets, with Jon Mansbridge picking up 2-21. A 7 wicket win for Cresselly as they add 18 points to their tally.
The gap at the top was reduced to four points as Carew picked up maximum points away to Herbrandston. The home side chose to bat first and started strongly, with the Nicholas brothers sharing a partnership of 51. It was Jack who went on to top score for the home side, reaching 73 off 102 balls before he departed for the ninth wicket with the score at 165. Noah Davies was the pick of the bowlers for the away side, with his 4-30 including the key wickets of Jack Nicholas and Tom Philpott (21). James Hinchcliffe (3-29) and Shaun Whitfield (2-35) also contributed with wickets to see Herbrandston bowled out for 167. Noah Davies (22) opened the batting this week, and shared an opening partnership of 33 with captain Rhys Davies (16) before the latter was dismissed. Ian Sefton (65no) and Brian Hall (34no) shared a 108 run partnership to pass the target for the loss of two wickets, with Paul Nicholas picking up the two wickets as he finished with figures of 2-27. Carew continue to pile the pressure on Cresselly with two fixtures left as the race for the division one title continues to
go down to the wire.
Haverfordwest have insured that they won’t go down without a fight, as their 16 point victory at home to Whitland reduces the gap between the two teams to nine points. Home captain Chris Phillips won the toss and chose to bowl first, a deviation which eventually paid off. It was opening bowler Will Phillips who struck first, picking up his first of three wickets with just his second ball as he finished with 3-23. Jake Merry ensured that there was no counter attack from Whitland, picking up a further four wickets for himself with the figures of 4-27 and restricting the away side to 75 before they were bowed out. Whitland started well with the ball, with three wickets from Glopal Ramasamy (3-26) leaving Haverfordwest at 42-3. However, with only 34 runs needed to win, Dan Field (22no) and Shan Perera (19no) remained at the crease to see the home side over the line. Haverfordwest need to hope for a nine point swing in their favour if they wish to remain in the division next season.
Neyland were the latest team to put a monstrous score past Llangwm, as the two sides faced off at the at the Community Hub. Neyland won the toss, having to bat first in order to achieve maximum points. It was Gregg Miller (55) and Dai Davies (66) who shared a 104 run partnership for the second wicket, before they were both dismissed by Luke Brock who bowled impressively for his 3-23. However, when one prolific innings came to an end, another was about to begin as Ross Hardy came to the crease. The Neyland number four smashed 107 runs off 81 balls which included 10 fours and five sixes, as he remained at the crease for the remainder of the innings. His knock saw Neyland reach 299-7 as they reached the tea break. It was opening bowler Jack John who stood out with the ball for Neyland, as he picked up his first wicket with his first ball of the innings. John finished his spell with the unbelievable figures of 6-12. Sam Laugharne soon got in on the act for Neyland, as he dismissed Llangwm top scorer Jon Clout (20) for his first wicket. He went on to pick up a further two wickets, finishing with 3-28 as Llangwm were bowled out for 57.
