Fishguard Sports secured a league and come double, coming out on top of an entertaining seven goal thriller against Camrose in the Division Two Cup Final on Friday 30th May 2025.
The long anticipated match was finally given a date and location earlier in the week, following an unsuccessful appeal from Fishguard's original opponents Narberth, after they had been removed from the competition for fielding an ineligible player who had already played in a domestic cup competition in a neighbouring football assocation earlier in the season.
Manorbier's Giraldus Pitch was to to be the setting on Friday evening. With both teams long without football and some key players absent, preparations would have been far from ideal, but the wider feeling was of gratitude that the match was made possible for a chance of silverware to cap another exciting season of Pembrokeshire football.
Fishguard Sports spot was certain, having already lifted the league title in a closely fought race against fellow promoted team Narberth. For Camrose, a somewhat thrown together team took to the pitch (due to absentees) but you would not have known from the fight and quality they put in to take their opponents all the way. The Cam had already shown their quality in the earlier rounds with a comeback win over a strong Bridge 2nds sides, and were determined to compete for the silverware rather than showing up for a procession.
It was Camrose who took a first half lead through Jordan Raymond in an otherwise quiet first half, long before the game would spring into life.
Fishguard equalised from the spot in the 59th minute through experienced captain Patrick Hughes.
Camrose then went back in front in the 71st minute through Jarvis Raine-Lower, who was set up by fellow youngster Michael Grainger.
As the game approached full time, Fishguard's young forward Luke Thomas fired home an equaliser to force extra-time, following his captain Hughes' header back across goal from a corner.
Fishguard then took the initiative in the additional 30 minutes, going in front for the first time just four minutes in thanks to youngster Greg Hughes.
Luke Thomas doubled the lead with a fantastic goal in the 101st minute, taking a superb first touch from a corner ball before acrobatically firing the ball beyond the Camrose 'keeper.
Nine minutes later and Joe Haworth cooly converted from the spot to set up a tense final 10 minutes as his team searched for an equaliser, but Fishguard held on for the victory to secure a league and cup double.
