Pembrokeshire West Wales Cup Roundup - Saturday 4th October

The 2025/25 West Wales Intermediate Cup got underway on Saturday (Oct 4), holders Hakin United and last season’s Runners-Up Tenby were given byes in the first round draw, which saw seventeen playing fixtures across the four leagues which make up the West Wales FA, Pembrokeshire Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Neath writes Jonathan Twigg, where there were three all Pembrokeshire encounters.

The feature game for Connect: Pembrokeshire wad the clash at the Knock Playing Field between local Division 1 rivals Clarbeston Road and Monkton Swifts, the visiting Swifts clipping the wings of their hosts 4-3 in a match refereed by Neill Crawshaw, who issued a brace of red cards and yellow cards, goal scoring hero Liam Butland yellow carded after his winner with 4 minutes remaining saw his side home 4-3.

Two early goals from Connor Davies and skipper Dylan Davies saw the visitors lead 2-0, which was extended to 3-0 on the stroke of half time with a goal from Luke Phillips, with both sides reduced to ten men after Ryan Hughes and Jake Wesley dismissed after an altercation on 35 minutes.

Centre forward Ben ‘Rocky’ John pulled a goal back for the Road inside ten minutes of the restart and wingman Jack Ashman made it 3-2 midway through the half, veteran forward Richard Bevan tying the game with ten minutes remaining to set up the finale, Butland the hero sealing a dramatic late win for the visitors.

Narberth travelled to the Gwendraeth valley and returned with a handsome 7-2 victory over Bancfffoselen, veteran attacking midfielder Ashley Williams banking a hat-trick for his brother, Bluebird’s manager Ryan Williams, who led 3-1 halftime with a brace from Williams and the equally venerable frontman, Steff Williams. Ifan Rees made it 4-1 before Harry Long pulled one back from the penalty spot. Kieran Jones scored three minutes later to make it 5-2, Williams completing his trio of goals on 85 minutes and centre half Connor Bowen completed the scoring with a minute to play.

Merlins Bridge were also beaten on their travels to Neath, losing 3-2 to Premier league Cwm Wanderers having taken the lead inside 5 minutes from striker Liam Manwaring, who sent the Wizards in 2-1 ahead with a goal in first half added time. The game turned upside down with two goals in a minute five minutes after the restart for the home side, which sent the 2018/19 champions crashing out.

Pennar Robins were roundly beaten 7-0 on their trip to Bryncoch, who are challengers at the top of the Neath Premier League. Neyland had little to sing about as they lost 6-1 at second placed Premier Division Glynneath Town, the homestead of iconic Welsh entertainer, Max Boyce. Corey Richards opening the scoring after 4 minutes but picked up his sides second yellow card midway through the half after Joe Gale, before Richards was dismissed in the 42 minute by referee Naythan Baynard with the game level at 1-1, Sam Laugharne also collecting a first half caution. With ten men Gavin Rowlands team were up against it as three minutes into the second period the hosts took the lead, further goals coming late in the game as Lewis Page and assistant manager Mathew Watkins found their names taken by Baynard.

Camrose hosted Neath Division One side Cilfrew Rovers at Folly Cross, emerging 4-1 victors in a game refereed by former Pennar and Monkton striker Dean Driscoll, Aled Cotton opening the scoring before Aled James came off the bench to score a second half hat-trick.

Runners up in the final to the Bridge were Carew, who featured in another all Pembrokeshire First Division encounter at Tregoes Park, hosts Fishguard Sports emerging 2-0 winners, former Solva frontman Josh Bland scored in the first minute, Luke Thomas doubling the score after a quarter of an hour on referee Keith McNiffe's watch, which was how the game ended, veteran Jack Christopher the only player to find his name in the referee’s black book, after 5 minutes.

Goodwick United opened their pursuit of silverware with a 5-0 success at Phoenix Park over Neath Premier Division Coed Darcey in a game officiated by veteran Pembrokeshire whistler Alan Boswell, Guto Roberts and Rhys Jones gave them a 2-0 half time cushion, Roberts adding his second on 63 minutes before skipper Scott Delany made it 4-0 two minutes later, Jones rounding of the scoring with his second before the midpoint of the half.

Johnston hosted Carmarthenshire Division One Camford Sports in a feisty encounter at Glebelands, the Tigers showing their teeth to emerge victorious by 3 goals to 1, referee Gareth Elliot issuing two red cards and a further four yellow cards, Johnston substitute Charlie Hughes getting his marching orders not longer after coming on and setting up fellow substitue Kieran Blundell to put his side ahead. Skipper Joey George had brought the game level on 75 minutes, the visitors leading for under 10 minutes, substitute Kieran Blundell notching a brace of goals in extra time for the win, goalkeeper Anthony Bevans, Ashden King and centre half Craig Bendall all getting yellow cards alongside Sport's Liam Haddock, with Shaun Dunn dismissed for the visitors at the end of the game.

Unbeaten Carmarthenshire title challengers Pontlliw came away from the King George V field with a 3-2 win over Second Division New Hedges & Saundersfoot in a game overseen by Shaun O’Connor, where the visitors Kyle Knight saw red on 78 minutes, alongside a brace of yellow cards for his team mates and coach Jack Howells, Jon Mansbridge picked up a yellow before the first half midpoint for the Sports and Harvey Drummond in the final throes of the game with the visitors 3-1 ahead, Oscar Miles scoring a consolation with 4 minutes to play as his side ran out of time as they rallied for a late comeback. Adam Davidson had opened the scoring on 25 minutes before James Huin equalised for Treboeth in first half added time, the unfortunate Morgan Broomhall scoring in his own net before the half time whistle for the visitors to lead 2-1, Codey Holloway making it 3-1 on the hour mark.

Carmarthenshire Division 1 title challengers Loghour Rovers overcame Lawrenny 3-2, the Gavanyards travelling with just two substitutes but led through and Ollie James goal on 7 minutes. The home side were level after 25 minutes and led 2-1 on the hour mark, the unfortunate Ryan Morton putting the ball beyond his own goalkeeper Charlie Arthur with 20 minutes to play, James scoring his second to set up a grandstand finish Hugh Griffiths side but they couldn’t force the game into extra time.

Swansea Premier Division side Treboeth United returned up the M4 from the Kingsmore ground having suffered a 3-0 defeat to Pembrokeshire Division One side Kilgetty, where the elder statesmen of local referees Steve Willimas officiated. Billy Lawrence opened the scoring on 54 minutes before the hosts own veteran Richard Cope notched a second with 15 minutes remaining, Lawrence adding his second as the game entered its final 10 minutes, the visitors Jordan Williams the only name etched in his namesake’s notebook.

Winless Swansea Premier League side Plough Colts won 4-2 at Letterston where sporting all rounder Barry Evans was the man in the middle, the flame haired official only needing to record goals in his notebook, the first of which fell to the hosts Ronnie Howell just after quarter of an hour had gone. Chris Jones drew the game level half way through the first half and 3 minutes later Zak Davies scored, before skipper Chris Hughes scored his second and his sides third with half an hour played. Veteran Rob Hedley plastered away a penalty after an hour before Davies made it 4-2 on 67 minutes to see his side home.

Third Division St Clears were defeated 6-1 by Carmarthenshire Premier league outfit Drefach in another game without a disciplinary sanctioned issued by referee Tudor Walters. Charlie Bujega opened the scoring for the Boars on 2 minutes which lasted until skipper Lee Jones equalised ten minutes later. The visitors then turned the game around to lead 3-1 t halftime with further goals from Rhodri Noakes and Harry Thomas. Jacob Mathews made it 4-1 straight after the restart before Jones added his second on 70 minutes and the coupe de grace came from Kyle Stephens on 75 minutes.

The final game was an all Pembrokeshire fixture between two sides whose history saw them locking horns for decades as Welsh League rivals, Pembroke Boro, now a Third Division outfit hosted Second Division leaders Milford United and it was the visiting Robins chirping at the end as they defeated the Magpies 4-3, Scotsman Paul Rooney was the whistler, and he cautioned two home players Jake Campbell and Carl Rees either side of the halftime break. Luke Hendry notched the opening goal at London Road after 15 minutes, before Liam Davies equalised 10 minutes later, before then scoring his second on 34 minutes, Josh Smart making it 3-1 five minutes before the halftime oranges. Liam Parr made it 4-1 with 25 minutes remaining before Luke Hadlich scored to make it 4-2 with ten minutes remaining just a minute after entering the fray, skipper Jake Campbell scored his sides third in vain after 8 minutes of added on time.

The ties between Second Division Solva and Carmarthenshire based Pwll Athletic alongside Swansea Premier league outfit Cwmfelin Press and Division 4 Newport Tigers, were all postponed.
