The Pembrokeshire Vikings mixed ability rugby team were treated to complimentary jacket potatoes this evening at Spud Box, following their regular training session. Around 50 people attended the gathering, which saw two fantastic local organisations come together for an evening of food and fun.
The Vikings, an inclusive team comprising players of all abilities including those with various disabilities, were invited down by the Spud Box team following their training. The popular takeaway, known for its accessible facilities including numerous benches, wheelchair access, and large car park, has become a welcoming venue for many in the local community.
"It was brilliant to welcome the Vikings down," said the Spud Box manager. "Many of them are our most loyal customers anyway, so it was great to give something back to them. We've been amazed at how much we've grown to become a safe place for so many people."
Entertainment for the evening was led by Levi, the Spud Box content creator who has become well known for his entertaining videos featuring interactions with customers, including many of the Spud Box team. The evening proved lively, with team members enjoying dances and playful "scrumming" sessions after finishing their meals, with an awesome upbeat atmosphere complete with song requests from the Vikings.
Andrew Meddings from the Vikings expressed his gratitude for the invitation: "It's so important for local organisations to support us in any way possible. We really appreciate Spud Box inviting us down as a team."
Spud Box also praised food supplier Brakes, who stepped up to support the event. "When Brakes heard about us inviting the team down, they supplied us with extra beans, cheese and other stock to cover it, which was fantastic. It was a great gesture from a company that’s been fantastic in supporting us since our launch.”
